Its really sad that in a time when India's growth as an economy was at its greatest, we have major Indian cities being targets of terrorist attacks. The recent multiple bomb attacks in Bangalore and Ahmedabad were a disgrace. I mean, we are supposed to have something called 'Intelligence' which is supposed to deal with matters like these before they blow up in our faces (quite literally). And as I type, there is news on television about 18 live bombs (eighteen!) found all over Surat, Gujarat. Speculation is, by the careless way they have been strewn about the city, that they are more of a distraction than a threat per se. The real question is, what are these terrorists trying to plot?
The opposition was quick to point out that both states (Karnataka and Gujarat) were BJP governed states, and that this was all a ploy by the Centre to take the attention off the 'cash-for-vote' allegations. Others opine that the 'Indian Mujahideen' is just a new face for SIMI, a known banned outfit in India. Either ways, innocent lives are being lost.. and the world's biggest democracy is looking like one huge joke. I guess the damage was done to our international image the day 3 MPs managed to walk into the Lok Sabha with large wads of cash. These are the people who represent us. The leaders who work for our welfare. Our vision. Our voice. I am embarassed..
There are some obvious problems in the way to our country's development. Its just more convenient to look at the exogenous factors rather than focus on the rot within. I hope things change for the better.. but I hate the feeling of passivity, the one you get when you realize you've been typing for the past 30 minutes on a computer, when what you should be doing is.. well I have no idea. But then I wonder who does..
